While it's easy to add the binary to individual profiles, adding it globally should be simple enough. I think this is a good request.

I think its very sad that such tuings need to be requested. Servers should have ton of popular tools like this by default. I really dont get it why ita such a fuss.

So, you think we should have every package ever in existence just for the sake of it?

We are a shared provider, some tools are just too niche to clutter the OS.

not every package, I said "popular tools". And how exactly 20-ish tools clutter the OS? That argument might have been valid in '95, not on a server that ton of people use daily. I think that sort of thinking Is very dated and has no validity in 2024, in an environment that already has a ton of much cluttering stuff.

I would agree if it weren't a shared service where OS and kernel optimizations are necessary.

Twenty valuable tools to you that will be useless to someone else who would have their own list of 20 tools. That is my point. Can't offer everything.

It's the same with supported dockers apps. We cannot just offer them all.

All I'm saying is - there's not much or any burden in installing a bunch of useful and relevant CLI tools to improve user quality of life.

It's better to have more tools than not, regardless of whether someone will use it. I'm sure not many people use half binaries that come preinstalled to begin with but they're sitting there, right?

this particular one makes it easier and more accessible to work with APIs that most of server-installed services come with.

You can just run pip install yq, and jq will come along w it.

With the recent upgrade to Debian 11, jq is now available on all servers. We will therefore mark this request as completed.
