BTRFS or XFS volumes for improved cross-seed support

Feature Request

Most UCC seedboxes are formatted with ext3, to support more efficient cross-seeding, could you please consider provisioning new hosts or new volumes formatted with either XFS or BTRFS file system? This would allow Reflink to be used for copy-on-write cross seeding, making storage consumption more efficient.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    Unfortunately, our shared infrastructure isn't a good fit for copy-on-write filesystems like BTRFS or XFS with reflink support. Because storage is shared across many users on the same hosts, COW snapshots and reflinks can introduce unpredictable I/O patterns and metadata overhead that would impact performance for everyone on the server.

    For this reason, we standardize on ext4 across our infrastructure as it’s very stable and reliable.

    I may be missing something crucial here, but I don’t see how BTRFS (or equivalent) would improve your cross-seeding. Even with ext4, you are only storing the data once no matter how many cross-seeds there is.
