convmv

Differing character encodings can create invisible differences in filenames between what’s on disk and what your torrent client is expecting. This situation can be very confusing. convmv is a small tool for converting filenames between character encodings that can be used to resolve this. It’s in the Debian repos and wouldn’t require any maintenance or configuration by staff. I’d appreciate if this would be installed.

I recently ran into this situation due to differing utf-8 normalizations and to solve it I had to awkwardly copy-paste the different utf-8 normalizations. convmv would have made this easier and reduced the room for error. The rsync —iconv option wasn’t enough to solve it.

Thanks.
