Since we cannot use Docker due to it needing access to root, how about making accessible Podman? It’s built around running containers in userspace environments, storing containers and images in ~/.local/share
Since it’s designed to be contained in userspace, it should work well in our multi user environments.
And of course, users shouldn’t have access to other users’ containers with Podman.
This should allow us to be able to start applications via containers, and greatly expand the number of available applications, and reduce the complexity of installing them.
